For 80 years, DuBrook Inc. has been a part of the communities it serves across Western Pennsylvania and Southwestern New York. What began with a single dump truck in 1946 has grown into a regional concrete and construction supply company with seven locations.

But the story of DuBrook reaches back even further—to 1919—and is built on the vision, hard work, and entrepreneurial spirit of several generations of families who helped shape the business and the industry.

The Beginning: A Concrete Business in Clarion

The roots of DuBrook can be traced to 1919, when Charles M. Lawrence established a concrete business in Clarion, Pennsylvania.

Over the following decades, the Lawrence family built a successful business serving the local community. Their work would eventually become connected to the story of DuBrook and, many years later, come full circle through the company’s continued presence in the Clarion area.

The Ogorchock Era Begins

Another era begins with, John “Jack” Ogorchock. He attended St. Francis College in Loretto Pennsylvania in 1942. Before he finished college, he left to serve in the United States Navy during World War II. From 1942 to 1945, he served as an aviation cadet and flew F6F Hellcats. In 1945, he returned to Brookville, Pennsylvania, with plans to build a business of his own.

Following his military service, Jack returned to college and earned a business degree from Duquesne University in 1949.

Starting with One Truck

In 1946, Jack established J.H. Ogorchock Trucking with a single dump truck. He hauled coal, lumber, and other raw materials throughout the region. That one truck became the foundation for what would eventually become DuBrook.

As the business grew, Jack expanded beyond trucking and entered the building supply industry. He established Brookville Building Supply, where ready-mix concrete was eventually added and continued to operate a small concrete plant with three trucks.

From Brookville to DuBois: Becoming DuBrook

In 1952, Jack continued to expand the business into DuBois, Pennsylvania.

The new DuBois operation included a concrete plant, four trucks, and a building supply store on Hoover Avenue. With operations in both DuBois and Brookville, the businesses eventually came together under a new name: DuBrook.

The name combined the two communities that were at the heart of the growing company—DuBois and Brookville. From this point forward, DuBrook became the name that would carry the business into its next chapter of growth.

Expansion Across Western Pennsylvania

DuBrook continued expanding throughout the 1950s as the demand for concrete and building materials grew.

In the late 1950s, the company expanded into Butler, Pennsylvania, establishing a new plant on North Main Street. DuBrook later acquired the John Tack & Sons operation on Bantam Avenue, which became the location of the Butler plant and remains part of the company’s operations today.

Growing in DuBois

DuBrook also continued to expand its presence in DuBois. In 1970, the company acquired Kolhepp’s ready-mix operation and relocated the Hoover Avenue plant to Parkway Drive. The Parkway Drive location continues to serve as a DuBrook plant today.

Growth Beyond DuBrook

Jack Ogorchock’s entrepreneurial vision extended beyond the concrete and building supply business. In 1962, he established Green Dot Inc., a commercial real estate development company. Through Green Dot, the Ogorchock family helped bring businesses and development to DuBois and later expanded its activities beyond Pennsylvania, including opportunities in Virginia and Texas.

The company’s growth created jobs and supported the development of businesses and industries in the communities where it operated.

DuBrook Expands to Texas

In 1970, Jack’s sons attended a conference in Texas and identified an opportunity to expand DuBrook’s concrete operations into that region. The company established operations in Spring, Texas, eventually growing to three locations and a fleet of 56 trucks.

The Texas operation was closed in 1985 as the company shifted its focus and resources back toward Pennsylvania. While the Texas chapter came to an end, DuBrook’s Pennsylvania operations remained strong and continued to grow.

A Change in Brookville and Clarion

As DuBrook continued to expand, the company’s footprint in Western Pennsylvania evolved. The original Brookville location was eventually sold to Paul Glenn, ending DuBrook’s presence in the Brookville community where Jack Ogorchock had first established his trucking business.

Meanwhile, the Lawrence family’s long-standing concrete operation in Clarion entered a new chapter. In 1984, the Lawrence family sold the Clarion business to Paul Glenn, who continued to operate and expand the business in both Clarion and Brookville.

Although the ownership and business names changed over the years, the connection between the Lawrence, Glenn, and Ogorchock families would eventually become an important part of DuBrook’s history.

Continuing North: Saint Marys

As the company looked toward the northern part of Pennsylvania, DuBrook expanded into Saint Marys.

The company later acquired Thomson & Montgomery Ready Mix, strengthening Saint Marys presence in the region. The Saint Marys plant continues to operate as part of the DuBrook network today.

Passing the Business to the Next Generation

In 1993, after nearly five decades of building the company, Jack Ogorchock transitioned ownership of the family business to his three children, who had already been involved in the company’s operations. The next generation continued the work their father had started while carrying forward the company’s commitment to growth, quality, and service.

In 1996, DuBrook celebrated its 50th anniversary. For many years, Rosemary Ogorchock-Barber played an important role in the company’s continued operations, overseeing locations including DuBois, St. Marys, Butler, and Evans City.

Her leadership helped carry the Ogorchock family’s traditions and values into the next generation of the business.

Jack Ogorchock passed away in 2012, leaving behind a business built through decades of hard work, strategic growth, and a commitment to the communities it served.

The M & B Chapter Begins

While DuBrook was continuing its growth, another Western Pennsylvania concrete company was beginning a story of its own.

In 2003, Mike Hindman and Braun Gourley co-founded M & B Services. The company began as a small residential concrete business with a handful of employees. Much like Jack Ogorchock’s early beginnings, M & B started with a single dump truck and a determination to build something bigger.

Over time, M & B Services grew into a full-service, year-round concrete construction company serving residential, commercial, and government customers. Its work expanded to include federal, state, and municipal projects throughout the region.

M & B Begins Expanding

In 2012, M & B Group entered a new chapter focused on strategic growth and acquisitions.

In April 2014, M & B Group acquired Glenn-Readi Mix, a ready-mix concrete business. This acquisition brought M & B and the long-standing Lawrence and Glenn family business histories together, creating another important connection in the story of DuBrook.

M & B Group Acquires DuBrook

In 2018, M & B Group acquired DuBrook Inc. The DuBrook name was retained, honoring the company’s long history and strong reputation throughout Western Pennsylvania.

Following the acquisition, M & B Group operated DuBrook plants in Brookville, Butler, Clarion, Evans City, DuBois, and Saint Marys.

For Hindman and Gourley, retaining the DuBrook name was an important part of the acquisition. The name represented decades of history, relationships, and trust within the communities the company served.

The connection was also deeply rooted in family history. Charles M. Lawrence, who was the individual who started a concrete business in 1919 was Braun Gourley’s grandfather.

In many ways, the acquisition brought together two stories that had been developing independently for generations—both rooted in concrete, construction, entrepreneurship, and Western Pennsylvania.

Continuing to Grow

Under M & B Group, DuBrook continued to expand its regional footprint while maintaining the traditions that had defined the company for decades.

2021: Expanding into Bradford

In 2021, DuBrook acquired Bissett Building Center in Bradford, Pennsylvania. The location at 56 Concrete Avenue became another important part of DuBrook’s growing network, expanding the company’s reach into the northern part of the region.

2022: Expanding into Meadville

In 2022, DuBrook expanded again with the acquisition of Meadville Redi-Mix Concrete Inc. The operation was eventually transitioned to a new location on Liberty Street Extension and began operating under the DuBrook name.

80 Years and Counting

Today, DuBrook has grown from the single-truck operation started by Jack Ogorchock in 1946 into a regional concrete and construction supply company with seven locations.

From Bradford and Clarion to Meadville, DuBois, Saint Marys, Butler, and Evans City, each location plays a role in serving contractors, businesses, homeowners, and communities throughout Western Pennsylvania and Southwestern New York.

While the company has grown considerably over the past 80 years, the foundation remains much the same: hard work, strong relationships, quality products, and a commitment to serving the communities where we live and work.
